Families packed the beaches along the Jersey Shore over the Labor Day weekend, soaking in summer’s final days. In Sea Isle City, crowds filled the sand even as morning rain cleared into bright skies by midday.
Soaking Up the Last Weekend of Summer
Action News Reporter Sharifa Jackson spoke with beachgoers determined to enjoy every remaining moment of the season. Many families set up along the shoreline, determined to make the most of the long holiday weekend.
“It was pouring earlier, but as we came closer, the clouds started going that way more and more. Then it just turned into sunshine,” said James Devine of Ridley Park, Pennsylvania.
Devine’s family planted their spot right along the water for what would be their final beach trip of the year.
“We love coming down for Labor Day; it’s good to have a long weekend and not have to get to work on Monday,” said Kelly Lubiejewski of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
“Beautiful beach, beautiful day today with the family,” said Emmanuel Macareno of Dover, Delaware.
A Family Tradition on the Boardwalk
The Jones family kept a tradition alive, returning to Atlantic City for their annual Labor Day getaway. For them, the trip has become a rite of passage spanning four decades.
“It’s just family tradition; Atlantic City has been in my family for years,” said Montel Jones of North Philadelphia.
The Atlantic City boardwalk buzzed with activity as visitors of all ages played games, rode rides, and sampled classic boardwalk food.
“I’ve never been down here during Labor Day weekend before,” said Chrysanne George of Paramus, New Jersey. “I like enjoying waking up and walking down the boardwalk. Listening to the seagulls. We’re about to play some games.”
Saying Goodbye to Summer
From the sandy beaches to the bustling boardwalk, crowds took full advantage of the picture-perfect weather. Yet beneath the fun, many visitors acknowledged the bittersweet feeling of summer coming to a close.
“I’m a big summer person. I am going to miss it a lot, but I know I will always be back next year,” said Chrysanne George of Paramus, New Jersey.
Summer officially ends on Tuesday, September 22nd.
